No time to hit the gym? Turn housework into a work-out! SqueezeItIn.com shows you how.
Chore: Laundry
Works out: Buttocks
Stand with your legs shoulder-width apart. Keep your back straight and your knees behind your ankles as you squat down to pick up a piece of laundry. Squeeze your butt on your way up. Drop the clothing into the washing machine and repeat until you’re done.
Chore: Putting away stuff
Works out: Calves
When putting away the dishes, clothes or toys, rise on your toes and hold for three counts. This tones the calves and stretches out the torso.
Chore: Cooking
Works out: Arms and chest
Waiting for soup to boil? Stand at a distance away from the countertop and place your hands on the edge, shoulder-width apart. Bend your arms and lower your chest until a few inches away from the countertop. Return to the starting position then repeat for two sets of 12 reps.
Chore: Vacuuming
Works out: Thighs
As you extend the vacuum nozzle in front, lunge your right leg forward while bending the left so the knee almost touches the floor. Make sure your right knee does not go beyond your toes. Return to standing position and change legs. Repeat until you’re done vacuuming.
