Served a relaxing up of lavender tea, I was walked through the process – asked to fill up a sheet with any concerns. There were several questions on paper – asking if I wore contacts or glasses, if I had any allergies, and the sort of style I preferred (‘cute’ would have longer lashes in the middle, whilst ‘sexy’ would have longer outer lashes to give a more cat-eyed appearance). I also discovered that if you wore glasses, they’d recommend not going for anything longer than 11mm – or annoying windshield wiper alert!
Next, I was asked if I’d like to get pink lash extensions. You should have seen the look on my face – but rest assured – they had meant using a few coloured strands as highlight instead (they had several other colours as well such as green, yellow-green, and silver). Feeling quite the adventuress, I agreed. The next question was the sort of lashes I’d like – they had four to choose from (each one giving a different sort of finish). Two had a more lustrous and glossier finish – ensuring they would stand out more; while the other two had a matte finish – making them look more natural.
Settling on the diamond silk (the glossy finish), my consultant observed my lashes and eye shape, recommending a style that was a cross between ‘natural’ and ‘sexy – she could tell I was a little apprehensive as didn’t want anything that looked too heavy on my eyes. Also, as my lashes pointed straight down, I needed a stronger C-curl for them to pop. What I really appreciated was that they don’t have a “one size fits all” policy – everyone is assessed to find the perfect match. Allowing me to finish up my tea, I was soon led to a quiet room, with some classical music playing in the background.
The entire process took about an hour and a half – and was a breeze what with my friendly yet professional consultant and expert. With my eyes shut tight, admittedly, there was a wee bit of sting here and there. I was told that it was a normal reaction as our eyes can be a bit sensitive to the adhesive used. But it was a mere pinch that didn’t last long! Once she was done, she cleaned up any residue and asked me to open my eyes.
It took a few minutes for my eyes to adjust to the light and she touched base, asking if I was experiencing any discomfort – I shook my head. Handing me a mirror, I was positively thrilled to see the end result! Lush lashes – perfectly fanned out. I especially love the little hints of pink, concentrated towards the outer corners of my eyes. And the best part? All patrons are treated to a luxurious bowl of bird’s nest after their treatment (yes, you read that right!).
It’s been about a week now, and I’m more than happy to report that I’ve not felt a single prick – they’re so comfortable that I’ve even forgotten I’ve got extensions on until I look in the mirror. Plus, they’ve been holding up pretty well (I’ve only noticed about two strands falling off). They will remind you as well that for five hours after they’re stuck on, you can’t get them wet, and avoid using oil-based makeup removers to prevent the adhesive from dissolving. On a little side note, those looking for a good skincare routine would do well to check out their little counter of HD Professional Skincare – formulated for even the most sensitive of skins.
All in all, it was a terrific experience and one I would highly recommend and return to. To top it off, I’ve been getting compliments on those little slivers of pink – with friends intrigued and raring to give it a try!
