Cleaning your makeup brushes should be treated as an important part of your beauty regimen as dirty brushes tend to harbour and spread bacteria all over the skin, which can cause breakouts. Furthermore, maintaining your brushes in good condition ensures more precise makeup application in achieving the look you want. Here are some few tips on caring for your brushes:
1. Always store your brushes in a neat brush roll (a case that has individual slots or compartments for each brush) or in an upright pencil cup. Storing and cleaning the brushes correctly will help them last for years.
2. Clean your brushes every two to four weeks to avoid bacteria and product build-up. To do so, pour a few drops of brush cleaner or baby shampoo into your palm. Then, wet your brush and gently swirl the bristles around in your palm.
3. Hold the bristles under running water and rinse, taking care not to submerge the brush head in water, as the bristles will become loosened from the glue that secures them to the base.
4. Squeeze out the excess moisture with a clean towel and reshape the brush head. Let it dry with its bristles hanging off the edge of a counter, not on a towel, to avoid mildew.
